Amnesia in Almost Every Scene

405px-memento-poster

Yesterday I finally got around to seeing Christopher Nolan's 2000 thriller "Memento"

It's a guy's kinda flick.

What's it about:

A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife.

If you've seen it you know that the word "amnesia" is used plenty throughout this flick. Naturally I have a soft spot for that word ;-)

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars. It has a great protagonist, a messed up storyline, and editing that will make your head spin.

I only have two notes for those fans who have seen this movie recently or remember it.

Spoiler ALERT do not read below this point if you've not seen it yet.

memento2

I thought his condition prevented him from making new memories. However, he realizes he's not in his hotel room at one point (screen shot above). How does he know that's not his room and more importantly how does he know he has a room in a hotel at all! Could it be that he's starting to create new memories?

and the second bit is

memento

The shot above confuses me because he already has tattooed on his chest "I've Done it" but this is a shot from his memory that he pulls up while driving with his eyes closed....or is it a look into the future....or something he's imagining? That screen shot alone leaves you wondering if indeed his wife is still alive. hmmmmm. thoughts?
