Personal Recipe to Minimize Gender Dysphoria

In a previous blog entry we discussed how there is a probability that you know of someone who is experiencing Gender Dysphoria.

In this blog entry we will discuss how to minimize the symptoms of Gender Dysphoria

As we previously discussed, experiencing Gender Dysphoria is not pleasant. Like many unpleasant experiences in life it can prompt the fight or flight response. Since Gender Dysphoria is something we experience internally, and since we can't escape our bodies, it is up to us to summon the strength to fight to better our situation.

So let's see what's on the opposite side of the Gender Dysphoria coin.

Once you realize that you are experiencing Gender Dysphoria there is no point in sitting around feeling sorry for yourself. It is time to flip the coin and see what's on the other side.

Gender Dysphoria is Destiny Calling.

Gender Dysphoria is the Call of Adventure.

Gender Dysphoria is a Call to Action.

The interesting thing about knowing you are experiencing Gender Dysphoria is that not only do you know what you don't want in your life, you also become aware of what you do want in your life. How is that possible? Because Gender Dysphoria lives in a Gender Binary Universe just like everyone else. Meaning you either want to feel, be, and/or present more masculine or more feminine than you currently do.

Now, all you have to do is take the steps to go out and get what you want! Experiencing Gender Dysphoria leaves us with scars, so what better acronym to use in order to empower ourselves. S.C.A.R.S. (Search, Create, Assemble, Remember, Shrive)

It's time to stop hiding our scars but instead show them proudly!

Search for Examples. What steps did the folks who came before you take in order to minimize their Gender Dysphoria and how can you do the same?

Create an action plan/budget. Write down a goal and the steps you will need to take in order to achieve them.
MTF example:

- Pierce ears
- Grow head hair long
- Get laser or electrolysis on face
- Start hormone treatment
- etc

Assemble a team. You will need help along the way, from posisbly a psychologist, a hairdresser, a laser techician or electrologist, to a local clinic where to get hormones etc. It's your team. Assemble it wisely.

Remember that it's the journey that counts. Nobody wakes up one morning looking the way they dreamed of looking just because they prayed they would the night before. Physical changes take time. Remind yourself of that fact.

Shrive your past.  Forgive yourself for the time you spent in the Closet. Let's face it, if you experience Gender Dysphoria you are probably your own worst critic. It's time to start being a little nicer to yourself. Self-talk is a powerful thing. Next time you catch yourself having negative thoughts about yourself, STOP and stand up for yourself, to yourself.  Don't allow yourself to talk negatively about yourself. Your past got you here, that was its job. Now you know better and can do better in your present moment for the sake of your future.
It's time to forgive yourself.

In our next blog entry we will discuss how to communicate with an individual who experiences Gender Dysphoria.
